It’s raining bears! Well, okay, maybe they’re just moving into the ‘burbs. Experts say bears are everywhere this year because suburban sprawl has spread into the animals’ habitat.
As residential areas expand into areas that have been wilderness for millennia, the combination of increased garbage and hungry bears has led to shaggy creatures stalking along the sidewalks of towns all over the country.
“Bears don’t know they’re doing anything wrong,” the Colorado Division of Wildlife says on its website in a warning about the danger of leaving garbage out. “They’re just following their super-sensitive noses to the most calories they can find.”
